Calvin Stokley

Calvin Stokley
June 16, 1938 - June 1, 2016

Calvin is survived by his wife, Marilyn, Son, Jim Michael USN Ret., Daughter, Brenda Stokley Love and Daughter, Linda Stokley Byrd.

Marilyn share this to share here:
Cal was the love of my life. We were married 53 years and raised three wonderful children. He had a good career in the Navy serving aboard a total of 13 Aircraft Carriers. He served aboard the USS YORKTOWN from June 1965 until July 1968. During this time the ship was deployed to Vietnam twice. When the USS Pueblo was seized by North Korea, the Yorktown was redirected to go there. No one had any cold weather gear. AK1 Stokley was sent to Japan to find warm clothing for the crew. He was in such a hurry to get back with warm clothing that he and some others used forklifts and pallets to shovel snow off the runway so a plane could land and take off to take cold weather gear to the Yorktown crew. He also made several trips into Vietnam to deliver airplane parts when one of the aircrew's planes would go down for repairs.  He told us stories about how scared he was spending the night in a bomb shelter waiting for his ride back to the ship.
